Sagada Chronicles: Pongas Falls

..

We started our day about 5:00 AM (June 10, 2012), going up to Kiltepan Peak, where you can view the sun rise and the rice terraces. The view is so amazing that I don’t need to take a picture with that magnificent nature’s beauty…

Kiltepan Peak

After about 30 minutes, we decided to go back to Residential Lodge to have our breakfast before going up to Pongas Falls. We dropped by to the Navales bakeshop, and I just can’t believe that the prices for bread were so cheap. Delicious Cinnamon rolls we sold about 20 php but in fact in Manila you can buy a decent cinnamon roll for 50 php… We ate our breakfast on Bana's Cafe and Resto. What I am worrying in Sagada is how I am going to eat because I know restaurants in Sagada offers large servings. Good thing my high school friend Mitch is just like me so we just share.

Around 8 AM, we met our tour guide, Janu James, he will be with us for our trip to Pongas Falls.

Our tour guide!

I really enjoy trekking and mountain climbing but if there’s one thing I hate about it, it is crossing hanging bridges. Since Sagada is in Mt. Province, crossing hanging bridges is the least thing I expect to happen. But lo and behold, there is a hanging bridge I need to cross… and my friends are not helping me.. our guide Janu James, rocked it also, it took  me about 20 minutes to cross that bridge… and it seems that I really need to face that fear because there is another bridge, a cement one naman but still I am afraid to cross any bridge.

The HANGING BRIDGE!

We passed by a community, where we registered which is their requirement before we are allowed to hike up to Pongas Falls. Pongas Falls, didn’t expect that I need to pray before I could see its magnificent beauty. I didn’t know that the “revering” path was that hard. It is more difficult than my Mt. Pinatubo trek!

Crossing the river. this is the spot where I injured my shoulder.

We literally, jump, hop from one rock to another rock, passed along rice terraces, cross streams, with strong current, and rock climbing! OMG! As I remember I asked my friend Raine that I wanted to see mountains but I am not ready to climb another one! The adventurous part of me is super excited the moment I saw what I need to do just to view Mt. Pongas. We needed to climb the rock boulder but one wrong move; you will see yourself being taken by the strong current of water beside the rock boulder going down to the rocky streams. How exhilarating and scary is that?!! That was one of the craziest thing I’ve done for the love of nature!!

one wrong move and your absolutely dead

After all that scary moments, I'm still grateful that I've surpassed all that and was able to see the beauty of Pongas Falls...

We decided to leave Pongas Falls after around 30 to one hour and chosed the other path. the mountain side trail which is much easier than rivering path. From there we saw the riverside...
